After we FINALLY made it home from school on Thursday (which is a whole story in itself) we couldn't even pull in the driveway for all the snow. We were too excited to play, though, so we parked the cars and worried about that later!
We made the hike to the house, and pulled out the warm clothes. Braden could hardly wait for me to take my heels off and put on my snow boots. He was READY!
He had talked about what he would do first the WHOLE drive home...make a snow angel. He hit the snow so fast, I completely missed the first snow angel he made.
We started on a snow man. I REALLY wanted to make a snow family...one for each of us. Well...my dreams were a little too high...but we worked hard.

But this is all that was made of our snowman.

While we were building, there were a few cars that were having a hard time making it around Adam's truck...so we started shoveling our way into the driveway. Our neighbor came to help...and we got the cars in this far...

Avery had had about all she could handle, so we headed in to make dinner, and the boys built a snowman with our neighbor and his kids. Adam said they got about as far as we had when Braden had a sudden urge to get warm. When they got in and took off his cold, wet clothes...the poor guy's legs and face were cherry red! He warmed up in a hot bath and we were ready to eat our potato soup, snuggle up and watch some movies. That was the plan.
Just as I finished the potato soup, the lights flickered. Then again. Then they went off. And stayed off. We ate by candle light. Avery was cracking us up because she kept singing "Happy day today. Happy birt-day today" and trying to blow out all the candles. We finished dinner, played in the living room for a little while, and then went to bed. All 4 of us in our king bed...and we stayed warm!
Friday morning...still no power. We ate some breakfast, played some cards (Lightening McQueen "Go Fish"). We didn't want to go play in the snow, because it would be hard to warm up with no electricity. Not knowing how long it would be before we had power, we decided to make some memories in spite of the snow! We booked a hotel room!!
We spent the afternoon eating here...

and shopping here...
then we checked in and napped here...
Our mini vacation was off to a great start! After our naps, we went to see The Princess and the Frog. The kids loved it. After most of the songs, Avery would start clapping.

After the movie we went to Braum's for ice cream and headed back to the hotel. We finished our ice cream (some with less of a mess than others) and watched the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics (some watched...some slept. I come by it honestly :) right Mom?)

I had hoped for an indoor pool. No such luck. You can see that this one is actually frozen over. Braden wanted to go ice skating, but it was much too thin for that!
Just about bed time we got a text from our neighbor that said our power was back on...so it was out just about 24 hours. We went to bed, woke up to a hot breakfast of omelets, sausage, bacon, and English muffins courtesy of the hotel.
We just got home to a house with heat and lights! What a fun, snowy weekend! Maybe our snowman will get finished this afternoon??
Here are some of the snowy pictures of the day :)

Oh my goodness, I LOVE snow pictures of your cuties!!! I'm so glad that it was a fun weekend, even if it wasn't "as expected". It's still so hard to believe that we had snow like this! I have loved looking at everyone's pictures of the fun. Now, I need to go work on mine!
Love you four!! (Oh...and I slept through opening ceremonies too. Seriously, it's in our genes.)
way to make lemonade out of lemons!!!! we weren't that lucky....this small town when it snows everything shuts down so we were stuck! but at least we had power! looks like u guys had a blast!
i love the way you made it into such a fun impromptu weekend! i think i'll go have some hot cocoa in honor of your snow weekend:)
What beautiful pictures! Looks like a scene on a post card. The town of H'vill would go crazy if we got that much snow! Looks like everyone had a good time in the snow and at the motel. Thanks for sharing!
